RRBC HOP The Convict and the Rose by Jan Sikes (2)

Award winning Biographical/Fiction sequel to Flowers and Stone. Luke and Darlina find their love severely tested as they struggle to overcome enormous odds.
When Texas veteran musician, Luke Stone, finds himself behind bars with a seventy-five-year sentence, he is filled with hate, anger, and rebelliousness. He’s lost everything that he treasures, including the woman who holds his heart.
How has it come down to this? He’s spent his entire life writing songs and making music, filling dance halls and bars from Texas to California. But, when he refuses to tell the FBI what he knows about certain bank robberies that he possesses knowledge of, they make sure he pays dearly.
Broken and alone, in a prison of her own, Darlina Flowers struggles to find a way to live without the man she loves so completely.
Over the next sixteen years, Luke and Darlina each search for ways to somehow survive the fate life has hurled them into.
In an effort to dull the pain of living with only half a heart, Darlina gets involved in drugs, then follows a guru and tries different relationships, but nothing fills the void.
Several years pass before Luke makes up his mind that prison will not break him. He crawls up from the bottom one tiny step at a time, determined to be and do something worthwhile and discovers artistic talents he never realized he had.
The Convict and the Rose inspires hope and shows how anyone can turn a negative dark situation into a positive one. But more importantly, the story portrays a love that goes beyond earthly confines and proves how persistence and faith come with their own sweet reward.
Join Luke and Darlina as they continue their epic journey with love as their constant North Star and freedom as the driving force.

My Review of “The Convict and the Rose”

MY REVIEW: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Some books reach in and take your soul into their keeping. This book is one of them.

I have read and reviewed Flowers and Stone and was delighted to do both. The book lingered in my memory long after I completed reading.

Some books reach in and take your soul into their keeping. Flowers and Stone was one … and The Convict and The Rose has captured me again.

This journey towards growth and a deeper understanding is one very special reading experience.

The anguished struggle of two-fallible, and all too human people as life hands out its own deranged sense of justice is at times painful to read.

This book provoked anger, sadness and a deep sense of empathy in me. It in turn delighted me, and made me cry, and then continued to invade my senses long after the ending.

There is a depth of love between these two damaged souls that defies the limitations of time.

The drug abuse is a road many of us have taken in times of the darkest despair, the struggle to overcome it and move clearly distant is an epic one, as is the final understanding of the violent reactions of Luke to his imprisonment.

Life knocked these valiant people to the ground again and again.  BUT they didn’t stay down for the count.

It takes guts to do that … and to keep right on doing it …

We are permitted to glimpse inside their darkness and anguish …and grow with them as the love and faith that they share takes them from that darkness and into the warmth and the light.

A wonderful, moving and intensely memorable story of love!

Book Review “Swiftly Sharpens the Fang” by Stuart Kenyon @StuartKenyon81 #premium_indie #IARTG #Dystopian

BOOK REVIEW: Hello and welcome to my review of “Swiftly Sharpens the Fang” by Stuart Kenyon.

BOOK REVIEW COVER SWIFTLY SHARPENS THE FANG BY STUART KENYON

BLURB:

Some monsters are born. Others are created.

And sometimes hatred is more tempting than forgiveness.

Set in a dystopian near-future vision of Great Britain, this gripping psychological thriller will chill you to the bone.

Terrorists killed Joe’s father. The young man’s life has become a chaos of binges, fights and hallucinations, while his dreams are haunted by repressed childhood memories.

When the black sheep of the family, Uncle Steve, takes Joe under his wing, the young man enters an ugly world of vice and fascism. Although organised crime brings glory and riches, it leaves stains on his soul.

Battling against his own conscience, Joe makes as many foes as friends. Soon, there’s no escape from Steve’s gang and their racist violence.

Unlike his uncle, Joe wasn’t born evil. But revenge against his father’s murderers is there for the taking, and his fangs grow sharper every day.

MY REVIEW: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 A powerful, gut-wrenching & terrifyingly possible read.

Every once in a while, a book will take you by the throat and shake you. It will make you shudder in momentary recognition, and then render you utterly speechless and gasping for air.  Swiftly Sharpens the Fang is such a book.

This books impact on my emotions found me needing to step back momentarily from reviewing it. I needed to regroup and assess my reaction before I dare commit it to paper.

Author Stuart Kenyon has a marvelous capacity for empathy. His understanding of the demons that drive us, the forces that mold us, and the moments that define us is exemplary.

Don’t go into this book with an expectation of a story set in some far off Dystopian Future. This book is a brutal, powerful, gut-wrenching and terrifyingly possible portrayal of our desensitized world of today.

The characterizations are so well developed, that we the reader are given more than a brief insight into the motivations of each persona. The author makes them familiar to us, he invites us to understand what drives them … even as we find those motivations repulsive. The author causes you to reflect on your own belief systems in this desensitized world we live in. He will by turn shock you, repulse you, and cause you to nod through tears of understanding.

This book is a tragically brilliant story of the harsh reality and cold brutality of our world today.

I have reviewed other works by Stuart Kenyon, and I said of the last one I read (Subnormal) “I’ve long held Aldous Huxleys’ ‘Brave New World’, and George Orwell’s classic Nineteen eighty-four ‘1984’, as the benchmark for Dystopian novels, and this book will now be added to that very short list.” To that list I’ve now added Swiftly Sharpens The Fang.

It will remain in my memory for a long time to come.

Hello, everyone. Harmony here. First up, huge thanks to Soooz for hosting me today! She’s letting me visit today so that I can tell you about my latest book, Backstage. It is an erotic romance novel and deals with some of the sexual coercion scandals that have hit the acting industry in the last year.

Here’s a bit about the book for you:

HARMONY KENT BOOK COVER BACKSTAGE

SHE’S A HOPEFUL ACTRESS

Just when Emma thinks she’s found love. Just when her big chance comes.  Just as she finds a little confidence at long last. Right then, it all goes horribly wrong.

 HE’S HER MENTOR

John believed he had found ‘the one’. But the demons of his past wouldn’t allow him to break the leash, and when he gets the wrong end of the stick, it just confirms all his old prejudices and hurts.

THEN THERE’S THE BIG MAN WHO CAN MAKE OR BREAK A CAREER, AND THE DEMANDS HE MAKES

Derek Prentis is his name. Coercion is his game. He’s the man with the money. The big man who wants to keep Emma under his control and who will do anything to keep it that way.

THE PERFECT STORM OF ROMANCE, PASSION, AND GREED.

AWAY FROM THE LIMELIGHT, IT’S ALL HAPPENING BACKSTAGE.

And here is a ‘sneek peek’ …

Derek held up a hand, and when he spoke, his voice held amusement, ‘It’s not what you think. She led me on. She wanted it. Really, young man—’

John punched him on the mouth and then shoved him toward the doorway, where a crowd had gathered. Mike pushed his way through and helped John manhandle Prentis out of the room. When they’d gone, Sophie came in and shut the door behind her. She stood and looked at Emma, pale and drawn. Then her paralysis broke and she half-sobbed, ‘Oh, God. Emma.’ Her distress emphasized the Irish lilt to her voice. A second later, she stood at Emma’s side and helped her to her feet.

Numb and shocked, Emma reached down and retrieved her clothes, which had come off her feet in the struggle. When she had herself dressed again, Sophie pulled her into a gentle hug. ‘Oh, God, sweetie, yer face.’

Emma extricated herself from Sophie’s arms and turned to look in the mirror. How Derek could have thought that anyone would believe she’d wanted it was beyond her. Blood stained her lips and chin and had dripped onto her blue blouse, making it almost black where it had soaked in. Already, a large bruise and swelling showed on her jawline, and red handprints marked her cheeks. Appalled, she held a tentative hand to her split lip and winced when even that light touch hurt like holy hell.

If you enjoyed reading about Backstage, you can pre-order it now at Amazon … US LINK and UK LINK. And it goes on live sale on March 30th. Thanks so much for sticking with me this far.
